Job Description

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join the Funding and Reform policy team. The successful candidate will work closely with members and stakeholders to analyse and develop policy positions in aged care. This will include reviewing and interpreting legislation and regulation (rules), assessing funding and finance policy, analysing budgets and developing new policy proposals.  You will represent the aged care sector by engaging with the Australian Government and stakeholders, analysing and quantifying policy proposals, and developing submissions. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Contributing to Ageing Australia's policy activities and program of works as part of the Policy and Advocacy team, including development of specialist functions.  
  • Preparing high-quality written advice in the form of reports, briefs, policy discussion papers, or submissions. This advice will incorporate member input and be informed by policy and quantitative analysis. 
  • Analysing and interpreting policy proposals and research findings regarding their relevance to Ageing Australia's members. Engaging with a wide group of stakeholders to discuss their needs relative to policy or legislative changes. This includes meeting with members, key political advisors, government officials and other stakeholders. 
  • Representing the interests of members in engaging with government agencies on operational, legislative, regulatory, and practice reforms. This includes representing Ageing Australia in relevant forums., such as committees, events, and working groups. 
  • Developing and managing the successful delivery of relevant externally funded projects as required. 

 

About you: 

To be successful in this role you will have:  

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications. Legal  qualifications will be considered favourably.   
  • Experience in public policy in government, health or aged care related organisations, or significant operational, regulatory or program experience in aged care.   
  • An understanding of health policy and current issues impacting the aged care industry, or significant transferable public policy experience.    
  • Experience in developing and advocating policy positions, both verbally and in writing.  
  • An appreciation of the political system and its policy processes.   
  • Highly effective interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to confidently advise and influence a range of internal and external stakeholders.  
  • The ability to interpret and comment on legislation and be able to communicate the key policy implications and recommendations arising from this interpretation.  
  • Good research, analytical and writing skills with demonstrated ability to compose concise policy briefings and submissions.  
  • Strong work ethic and work history that would evidence commitment to Ageing Australia values and a genuine passion for aged care.
